Hi all,

the following quote is written by haary here: http://www.delilinux.de/forum/topic.php?id=1143

Then there is the Internet. The WWW is almost unsusable without Javascript, Java and Flash these days. Any Desktop OS that deserves this name should support it. Hell, even my mobile phone can play flash videos. But to support this stuff you must have enough computing power. The computers that DeLi was created for doesn't have that power.

Does anybody have an idea?

Yes, it troubbles me, that i can't work without flash & Java with some pages. :(

For example, I can't get my T-Online account without that trash.

But i have read some weeks ago (www.nickles.de), that there is no future for flash, because there will be established a new standard for html (if i remember right). With that, you can use video without flash & co with every browser implemented that new standard.

Yesterday i logged in at my ebay-account with dillo (the old one from deli 7.x), and it works well. :)
With my old lappy (32 MB and 147 MHz).
It works, it's not a question of technology, but it's a question of will!

If ebay is able to do that, others are able to do that, too!

So i see a future for Deli & Co., because ther a much more people, who don't have the money to buy new and fast computers, here in germany, too (Hartz-IV)!!!

And old machines you get for very less money.

I think, the most problem are some bugfixes with deli apps (CUPS, USB, WLAN, for example).

At the other way: We need people, who are able to create new packages.

Maybe s.o. have fun and time to create a workshop like "creating packages for Beginners", so we have a help for the first steps.

delix has written something to that here: http://www.delilinux.de/forum/topic.php?id=964

Also nochmals :

For that, who don't understand german:

He means, it is very easy to create packages for deli. Look at "ports", pkgbuild, makefile.
Sometimes you have edit makefile, because there are wrong directories.

I think, the first selfmade package is the most difficult package... ;)

My previous post agrees with your opinion.

Deli's internal isn't really bad. It doesn't need so much maintenance, 'cuz it doesn't have to use the newest kernel, after all. The key problem is apps recompile/re-writing.

Speaking of the new HTML standard, I found something that looks like a good fit for DeLi:
Origyn Web Browser
Specifically:
Targets CE & similar devices (should be low ram)
SDL & GTK versions-GTK gets 100% on acid3, SDL is 99%
Javascript-it's Webkit based
Supports uClibc--the clincher, perhaps?
Some recent versions support HTML5

I don't know, if there are some dependencys, doesn't included in deli.

But there is a very fat manual included (about 200 pages).

Try to install it and post the resuld. :)

A little help you will get with this: http://www.delilinux.org/forum/topic.php?id=819

And littlebat has written a diary, in which is included a lot of information about installation of third packages under deli http://www.learndiary.com/en/

greetings from germany

All right, will try a build (in a while)...
Beware-- checkout is
svn co http://www.sand-labs.org/svn/trunk

which downloads 300+ MB--it includes the whole webkit tree, and then some.
Some judicious pruning, and
find ./trunk/|grep '/.sys/'|xargs rm -r

brought it to 144 MB.
I know there's a lot of cruft left in the tree, though.

The ebuild they have should be a help for packaging.

Well, it takes cmake 2.6.2 or higher-I'll try building 2.6.4
I pruned too much, I think--building OWB will wait.
